Assignment 1: Me, Myself & I (Part Three)

Photobucket
Prototype for "I love books.". Added a shelf below the books.

Photobucket
Prototype for "I love traveling." Decided to separate the letters to make them clearer. The 'n' ends in Singapore *grin*.

Comments from tutor

Books artwork good, bold outline a bit?
Travel artwork...Cool! make plane bigger

Comments from tutorial presentation

"I love books": Most couldn't see the 'D', but I received a handful of suggestions to play around with.
"I love traveling": Not much problem, but I had a suggestion to add city/airport names to the destinations to make it look more like a flight map.

Assignment 1: Me, Myself & I (Part Two)

Comments from tutorial critique session

1a: Many found the design clean and simple, but had problems distinguishing the 'd' because part of the letter is formed from the folded pages whereas the other two letters are composed of the coloured covers only. One suggested to colour the pages of the 'd' to highlight its importance.

1b: This is my personal favourite of the two. Most people liked this one too. Someone suggested that the small 'd' might be confusing as the 'A' and 'N' are capitalised. I thought of designing a 'D' that was made up of horizontally stacked books of varying lengths.

2a: I was concerned for this design and the next one because I needed the use of a background to help convey the idea. However, my tutor said using backgrounds was perfectly fine. Most people got the idea of traveling from this design, but thought the multiple flightpaths (red lines) looked too messy.

2b: This was a favourite among many because it was simple and its idea was clear.

I chose 1a to develop into a prototype, only changing the 'd' to a capitalized one. For the prototype on 'traveling', I decided, on someone's suggestion, to use 2a's world map background and 2b's wording concept.
